According to data from the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, during the 2021–2025 period, Phu Tho ranks among the top provinces nationwide in tea cultivation, with a total area of approximately 14,500 hectares and an output of 183,000 tons. The average annual processed tea output reaches about 45,000–50,000 tons, accounting for 25% of the total fresh tea production.
Phu Tho currently ranks among the top provinces in both tea cultivation area and output.
The province has developed concentrated tea production zones covering 5,800 hectares, organized under value chain linkages. There are 60 tea processing facilities across the province, with a processing capacity of around 60,000 tons per year, serving both domestic consumption and export markets. The product structure of processed tea has been shifting towards a higher proportion of green tea and specialty teas, such as O Long, flavored teas, and matcha.
Efforts to strengthen management, brand building, and tea labeling have received growing attention. Phu Tho currently boasts 39 tea products certified under the OCOP program with ratings of three stars or higher (17 products with four-star certification and 2 products rated five stars). Many tea-growing regions, such as Pa Co, Vo Mieu, Long Coc, and Xuan Dai, have also been linked with agricultural and community-based tourism, helping to enhance the reputation, economic value, and competitiveness of the province’s tea products.
