In celebration of the 48th anniversary of the signing of the Laos - Viet Nam Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (July 18, 1977 - 2025), Pathet Lao - the official mouthpiece of the Lao News Agency - has published two editorials affirming the historical significance of the treaty and highlighting the special role of Laos - Viet Nam relations in the cause of safeguarding and developing the two nations.

The editorial, titled Great Friendship, Special Solidarity between Laos and Viet Nam, highlights that Laos and Viet Nam are neighbouring countries sharing a border of over 2,000 kilometres, standing side by side along the Truong Son Mountain Range, sharing the waters of the Mekong River, and having once fought in the same trenches against common enemies. The two nations share common ideals and aspirations for independence, peace, and happiness.
The longstanding relationship of attachment, solidarity, and mutual assistance between the Lao and Vietnamese peoples – founded by President Ho Chi Minh, President Kaysone Phomvihane, and President Souphanouvong – have been continually consolidated and developed into a relationship of special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries. This relationship has been nurtured over generations by the leaders of the two Parties, States, and peoples and developed into a pure, rare form of solidarity in international relations, becoming an invaluable legacy of the Lao and Vietnamese peoples.
Meanwhile, the editorial Laos-Viet Nam Relations as a Special, Unique Relations asserts that, in the history of international relations, the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Viet Nam is a rare model, making a significant contribution to the struggles for national independence as well as the construction and development of the two nations.
The relations between the two Parties, States, and peoples of Laos and Viet Nam are built on a foundation of loyalty, purity, and mutual support in overcoming hardships, despite sabotage from hostile forces. The article concludes by quoting President Kaysone Phomvihane, who affirmed that the Laos-Viet Nam relationship is a shining example of proletarian international spirit – special, enduring, and comprehensive.
The teachings of President Ho Chi Minh and the revolutionary spirit continue to be preserved and promoted by successive generations of leaders in Laos and Viet Nam, fostering the relationship comprehensively and sustainably in the new era.
